Noosa is a beautiful beach paradise on the Sunshine Coast, and the last place you can swim freely on all the beach. From here up it becomes harder to patrol the waters, with a higher risk of jellyfish, sharks, crocks... Anything you don't really want to be in the water with if you intend to make it home in one piece.
I stayed in Nomads in Noosa, which was lovely and so social, with a big pool and a short, but steep, walk to the beach (I loved it, especially since I'm such a fitness junkie). From here is where I did my Fraser Island trip from. A lot of other people go from Rainbow Beach, but there isn't a lot going on there so Noosa is such a better choice, despite the hour and a half trip to the ferry.
I met some lovely people in Noosa, something I really feel happened because of the hostel I was in. A lot of other places I've stayed I've spoken to people and then not seen again. Noosa has a range of costal walks which are beautiful due to its National Park status, with walkers often seen Koalas along the way. Anyone doing a trip, I highly recommend Noosa, what is lacks in things to do, it makes up for it the beautiful and vibe of the place.
(Nomads also offer FREE surfboard hire).
