New York City here i come!
I've been feeling a bit down recently and nothing I seemed to be helping to get me out of my bad mood. The last time i felt like this was before i went travelling in Australia, so i knew that a little break and change of scenery would do me the world of good. I wanted something cheap and cheerful that would allow me to top-up my tan, but with winter well and truly here, i knew that was going to cost me a fortune, so i turned my attention to city breaks instead. I am very lucky to have a friend that lives in New York, and after checking he was happy to have me and that work would let me take those days off, I was booked onto my £380 Virgin Atlantic flight (I am very proud of how cheap my ROUND-TRIP ticket was).
I've always been obsessed with New York - I have a beautiful black and white print in my living room that I've had since i was 13 and having seen Gossip Girl so many times that I embarrassingly know a lot of the scripts. There's just something about the city, it's history and culture that excites me and keeps me wanting more. I've only ever been once before (I was 15 at the time and it was pre-Gossip Girl), I don't feel like i was old enough to appreciate the trip as much as i would now and I've been desperate to go back ever since. Now I finally have the opportunity to and can take full advantage of everything the city has to offer (I'm 24, I'll have a Cosmo, please and thank you).
I am a very unorganized person - which probably explains my anxiety. I rarely travel on my own, not internationally anyway, and generally my parents or whoever I'm travelling with will take the reins and keep me in line. As i am only going for 5 days, it is going to be very important for me to get organised and plan my days so that i don't miss anything i want to do. I've already done the whole 'tourist' side of New York like the Statue of Liberty and Central Park, I want to make sure I go to the top of the Rockefeller Centre, see the Brooklyn Bridge, visit Dumbo, do some Christmas shopping in Macy's and obviously go to the Victoria's Secret store on 5th avenue (If you know me, you're probably rolling your eyes right now. I have a Victoria's Secret addiction). There is so much to do in New York that i know i'll come back disappointed if I don't see everything i want to, so i need to try my best to work out a trip itinery.
I can't wait to see all the elaborate Christmas decorations and ice skate at Rockefeller Center, along with all the shopping and beautiful photo opportunities that will undoubtedly keep us rushed off our feet all week. I always spend weeks before a trip doing research; finding photo inspo, restaurants and must-go places. As much as Google is the obvious go to for this, Instagram has become my favorite way to scout out a location when going anywhere, seeing what other people have discovered and found interesting is so much easier through the app. I already found so many places I want to see and I only booked the flights a week ago!
I want to make sure we fill every second and don't miss anything out so if anyone has any suggestions for things to do in New York, leave a comment! I want to make the most of my time in that beautiful city.
