Okay, I'll admit it.... I have an problem. And yes, that problem is Wagamama. Regardless of the company, mindset or day of the week, ask me what I'd like for dinner and the answer will always be Wagamama.
At the age of 18 I moved to London never having heard of Wagamama, It was something my dad introduced me to when he came up for work and we met for dinner. He loved it because he could get good food and it was socially acceptable for him to eat alone whilst on his work trips. From that day I've been hooked and come to think of it, I've always ordered exactly the same thing on every visit.
What is that same meal I always order? I'm sure you can guess, yes I am sad to admit that I am your typical white girl and I always order Chicken Katsu Curry and Chicken Gyozas - sue me. That being said, I recently took the plunge and allowed a member of staff to order for me, she wanted to encourage me to try something different as she normally just puts my order through as soon as I walk in the door (god, I hate being so predictable). Wagamama have a policy where if you don't like something you've ordered they’ll replace it for something else! So there really is no excuse for anyone to not be adventurous.
Wagamama is also very popular for their vegan menu. Having a few friends that have adopted a vegan lifestyle, it's great to know that we have somewhere we can both enjoy the food without one of us having to make a compromise. I tried their new kare burosu ramen when I was there and it was absolutely to die for. Having been vegan I know how hard it is to find food that is actually full of flavour, especially in the UK so I love that Waga has been able to make something that even someone that isn't actually vegan can enjoy.
But, if that's not your thing they have plenty of meaty dishes to feed your appitite.
The store recently had an update with a new design that is slowly being rolled out through all their stores. The restaurant now has a far more romantic vibe with softer lighting and lower tables at the back of the store that allows you some privacy. The bar area has completely been redone and now allows for 30 more covers whilst creating a far more social bar area that makes it perfect for a couple of drinks pre/ post dinner.
In 2017 the Plymouth store came top in the country for their customer service. I love going to Wagamama because the staff are so friendly and helpful, they always welcome me like an old friend - probably because I basically live there, but It's nice to know that I'm not going to be judged for Katsu cravings.
Something that might come as a surprise is that Wagamama does amazing cocktails, my favourite is the Wagamama Mai Tai but they have a big menu to choose from with a variety of high-quality spirits . Wagamama also have their own range of beers that have been specially brewed for the company.
