As part of my new years resolutions I promised myself that I'd be more spontaneous in 2018. I had no idea how I was going to go about doing this, I wouldn't say I particularly lead a boring life, but I feel I need a push to get out there and try new things before I'm too involved in a job or adult life.
My parents are a huge inspiration to me, both are approaching 60 years old and yet have spent the last 5 years taking amazing trips that they've always wanted to do, visiting China, Puru, Thailand and Cambodia, backpacking and staying in hostels before they physically can't. Due to not having as much disposable income as them, or the ability to spend half the year out of the country, I thought I'd just try and do something every week this year that I've always wanted to but never done before. There are clearly the obvious ones, I don't have any tattoos and hate heights so I've never done a sky dive or a bungy jump, but finding 52 things I've never done can't be that much of a challenge... right?
January is usually a write off for everyone, so this gave me the opportunity to feel good about myself and get out doing things over the weekend, and not spending my days in bed watching Friends (It went onto Netflix January 1st and i'm already in season 8!) There are obviously things that have time constraints, I've never been to Ascot so I plan to do that this year and something things you just wouldn't want to do In the winter, so I'm having to try and strategically plan out my activities which is proving rather difficult since I struggle to get myself organised. But I can't wait to hopefully have a far more productive and exciting year then I had ever had!
So, here is what I've got up to so far....
Week 1: Paddleboarding - Yes this seems like a pretty boring one, but I'd always wanted to do it and never have. Could have maybe waited until it was a bit warmer and not 6C
Week 2: Shoot a gun - This has always been on my list of things to do. Having now done it, I might actually take it up as a sport, I loved the sense of power you feel and I was actually pretty good at it! (My shoulder is still very bruised from the push back though).
Being that this is now week 3, I need to establish what I plan to do this week. The weather is pretty shocking in the UK this week so what I wanted to do, quad biking, might not be an option.
I will be keeping track and updating on here what I've been up but also on my Instagram account, so make sure you follow me on there if you don't already! @beesrichards
